This is meant to stick in a backpack to carry and easy. It is stable as long as the Lens of the camera is not too large. It works well on my DSLR, even with a 500mm lens catadioptric (compact telephoto lens design). It has limited application in comparison to a conventional tripod, because you simply cannot amount. If you're benching your camera on the rocks, boxes and boxes of this type of tripod helpful.
