The monopods are ideal for any travelling photographer or in situations, where carrying and setting up the more stable, yet bulkier and heavier tripods is not practical. They are also easier to deploy, versatile, and could provide the needed stability for almost all kinds of digital and film cameras. When snapping pictures for your family album while on holiday, you might not need any stabilization equipment, but if you are a professional or serious amateur photographer, then owing a monopod or tripod (and often both) is a must.
When choosing the proper supporting accessory, you should take a number of factors into account, but quality, sturdiness, weight, and versatility are the most important of them. Price is always a concern for all of us, but top-quality equipment is rarely sold at rock-bottom prices. Listed below are five monopods, which are used by many professional and semi-professional photographers and which could help you take clear shot in various situations:
Manfrotto 680B Monopod is an affordable four-section, solid monopod, which has rubber grip and wrist carrying strap for further support and stability. It features both 1/4″ and 3/8″ screw attachments, which allows almost any camera to be used with this accessory, and has a quick lever leg locks that allow the monopod to be set up easily and in a matter of seconds. Its folded height is 50.8cm, its maximum working height is 154cm, and the maximum load that it can support is 10 kilograms.
Manfrotto 685B Neotec Monopod Deluxe is a professional monopod, which comes with a number of improvements that set it apart from other monopods. For starters, it has a foot pedal, which makes setting it up easy and extremely convenient, while the safety lever allows the photographer to close the monopod by just pressing it with his finger. Suction cap foot and protective leg warmer are available too and add to the versatility of the Manfrotto 685B. The monopod weighs only 800 grams, supports up to 8kg cameras, has a folded height of 74.4cm, and maximum working height of 170cm.
The Canon Monopod 100 is an entry-level, affordable, four-section monopod, which comes with a mini ball-head. It weighs only 500 grams, has an operation height that ranges between 54cm and 165cm, and supports up to 2kg cameras. It has flip-lock levers, hand strap, and rubber leg tip, which allows its usage on flat and slippery surfaces.
Velbon RUP-40 Monopod is another entry-level and extremely affordable monopod, which has four sections, foam handgrip, and wrist strap for extra stability. It weighs only 360 grams, which makes it very easy to carry around and folds down to 48.6, allowing for easy storage. Its maximum working height is 158.4cm and it comes with a rubber foot.
